First, we strongly condemn the day of annihilation, February 15, and we denounce all conspiratorial forces. We also respectfully salute the honorable resistance of Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the loyal companion of women. We remember all the martyrs who paved the path to freedom and enlightenment and bow in reverence to their historical heroism.
The February 15, 1999 conspiracy aimed to target the only alternative—free will and socialism. As Leader Öcalan assessed, the orchestration of the February 15 conspiracy marked the beginning of external interventions in the Middle East. It is now evident that this conspiracy was an integral part of the Third World War and the redesign of the Middle East. In this sense, the international conspiracy against Leader Öcalan represents a grave historical crime committed against the Kurdish people, the free women’s movement, and all peoples struggling for freedom.
Since the First World War, the capitalist system has been attempting to redraw the Middle East to suit its own interests. To achieve this, the map of the Middle East was redrawn, establishing a nation-state system and spreading the poison of nationalism throughout the region. However, the nation-state system failed to take root in the Middle East. In this capitalist era, nation-states are no longer deemed necessary; instead, they are viewed as obstacles that must be overcome.
Nonetheless, the most significant barrier to the capitalist system lies in the social, ethical, and political culture of the Middle East. The political organization of this culture’s values and standards finds its representation in the freedom movement led by Leader Öcalan. For this very reason, the conspirators targeted Leader Öcalan. However, with his profound vision and resilience, Leader Öcalan clearly understood the plans of the conspiracy and proposed the concept of democratic modernity as an alternative.
On the anniversary of February 15, this dark day, the occupying Turkish state has continued its genocidal crimes and unceasing occupation attacks. Since the fall of the Baath regime, the Turkish state and its mercenaries have launched intensive attacks on Rojava Kurdistan and northeastern Syria. These attacks have been met with exceptional resistance by the fighters of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), the People’s Protection Units (YPG), and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the trenches of Tishrin Dam and Qaraqozak Bridge. Our people have made significant sacrifices and shown an honorable stance.
In reality, the Turkish state is making multifaceted efforts to thwart the “democratic nation” project, developed by Leader Öcalan and implemented in northeastern Syria, to prevent its broader application throughout Syria. In other words, it seeks to obstruct democratic transformation in Syria. However, Leader Öcalan views the resolution of the Kurdish issue through democratic, political, and legal means as the key to establishing democracy in the Middle East. He persistently warns of the dangers of continued genocide and occupation.
We, as the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), reiterate our commitment to supporting and defending Leader Öcalan’s “democratic nation” project until the very end. Syrian women, alongside the Syrian people, can build a free and just Syria based on this great project. As the Women’s Protection Units, we will fight to our last breath to achieve this goal and will intensify our participation in the campaign for the freedom of Leader Öcalan.
This campaign has spread throughout Kurdistan and the entire world. Friends and international revolutionaries have undertaken numerous significant actions, yielding historical results. This demonstrates that Leader Öcalan’s model has transcended all borders, becoming a beacon of hope for all women and nations worldwide.
Accordingly, we call on our people and all women to join the campaign: “Freedom for Leader Öcalan and a solution for the Kurdish issue.”
Once again, we strongly condemn the international conspiracy that targeted the revolution of women, life, and freedom—the revolution of the peoples. We renew our pledge to our heroic martyrs to follow in Leader Öcalan’s footsteps until the struggle for free women and a democratic society achieves victory.
Leader Öcalan’s paradigm will save humanity from darkness and annihilation. The freedom of Leader Öcalan is the freedom of all peoples and women.
Long live Leader Öcalan!
Long live the revolution of women, life, and freedom!
The General Command of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ)
