Rêber Abdullah Öcalan calls for a political solution

Rêber Abdullah Öcalan: “The isolation continues. If the conditions are right, I have the theoretical and practical power to move this process from the grounds of conflict and violence to the legal and political grounds.”

Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), recently communicated with his family for the first time in 43 months. The meeting, which took place on 23 October, was announced by his nephew, Ömer Öcalan, a Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party MP from Şanlıurfa (Riha), via his personal X (formerly Twitter) account. This family visit marks a significant moment, as Öcalan’s last direct contact with his family was in 2020.

Ömer Öcalan posted on the virtual platform “X”: “I last met Mr. Abdullah Öcalan on March 3, 2020, and after several years, we met as the family of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan on October 23, 2024. Meeting with family is a legal right, and we want these meetings to continue regardless of the circumstances.”

Ömer Öcalan explained: “This visit came as part of a family meeting. During the meeting, Mr. Öcalan assessed the overall political developments and requested that the following message be conveyed to the public: ‘The isolation continues. If the conditions are right, I have the theoretical and practical power to move this process from the grounds of conflict and violence to the legal and political grounds.’
