To the families who lost their loved ones in the flood
Statement of the YPJ General Command
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Spanish people and to the families of the 217 individuals who tragically lost their lives in the flood that struck Valencia last Tuesday. We share in their grief and pain from the bottom of our hearts. The disaster you experienced was not a natural event, but rather a consequence of the actions of the prevailing capitalist system, which exploits nature for its own interests, leading to environmental destruction and imbalance. In such circumstances, it is the responsibility of governments to take the necessary measures to protect their people. Typically, after a disaster, governments intervene swiftly, declaring a state of emergency to contain the situation and save lives. Unfortunately, the Spanish government failed to take responsibility for the catastrophe that affected its people.
We, the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), stand in solidarity with the Spanish people and take responsibility toward the people of Valencia. We are fully prepared to offer the necessary support and assistance in all aspects.
